Hi everyone, this is Irfan from ehacking.net and in this episode, I will discuss the most common issues people are facing right after installing the Kali Linux 2020.1. People can't excute the basic command for example, 'ifconfig' so why and what is the solution? This is objective of this lecture. Before moving further let me remind one thing and it's about connecting with me if you have not liked or subscribeb to channel yet then what are you waiting for? Do it now and do not forget to his the bell I can button in order to get the recent updates from me so let's get started! Now this is my Kali Liniux updated 2020 version what I'm going to do? I will basically login... Now so let me fix the display so that you'll feel good. Alright, so this is the display setting seems appropriate here. The Kali developers decided to kill the default root user and they decided to go with the traditional default known root user model so starting with the Kali 2020 though the Linux distribution has replaced the default root user which had tor as a default password with a standard unprivileged user the default Kali Linux user name is Kali with a default password that is alsi Kali. So what's the problem? Kali basically contains many tools that can only be run with root priviliges. Let me give you an example. If you open the terminal and type 'ifconfig', you will get this particular error 'command not found', however 'ifconfig' is the basic network utility, it should be there. I am logged in with a non root user and I can't execute this command. There are several solutions for this so let me give you a solution. First, if you just type 'sudo' since this user is the part of the sudo group so if you just type 'sudo ifconfig' you should be able to hit the command provide the password of this account and then yes, it's done. You are able to hit this so this is one solution but we have another solution as well for example you take the terminal, you can use the terminal with a root access. In order to do this, you just need to type 'sudo su' and then hit this and now you are logged in, you are loading on this terminal using the root access so you can now hit all the commands or everything without using 'sudo'. You can just type 'ifconfig' and you are done. It's working alright so let me go back and I'll show you another example so let's do over the practice with Apache service. Check the Apache which is status as an on-road account let me do this, first of all, let me clear this screen. .....Type 'service apache2 status'.... let me do this with 'sudo',

now it shows the status that is inactive. Let me do the same with the root access 'sudo su' and I should be able to do it without sudo command here. So the permanent solution is to login as a root account.

If you just go to the file system, you can see that all the important system files and folders belong to the root user not this non priviged user, you can see the permission, it's all the important system files belong to the root user so the ultimate solution is to login using the root account however it is not recommended for the new user so let me show you the steps to login ot take this with an..

This is a step to change the root password and login as a root account so that you will not face any issue in future. If you do this 'sudo su' and this is the 'passwd root', set the new password, retype, now the password is updated successfully so we just want to switch the user so that I can login as a root now.

I can do whatever I want to do because I'm logged in as a root user and therefore I have all the access or privilege to execute all the commands and solution. So there were several solutions being presented here, you should choose the appropriate one.
